Spring Mix 2024 Classic Edition

There are only two kinds of music – good music and bad music. And you won’t find the latter here.

Every year since 2006 I try to prepare a sepcial set for the first day of Spring. After a break in 2023, I come back with this extra-long set full of classics, that have a common theme: chilled, progressive tunes and gentle melodies easy for an ear.

Today’s classic turned quite eclectic, blending many styles and eras of music. It includes hits knows to everybody from a radio, universally acclaimed trance bombs and some niche recommendations found here and there. Surely you will be suprised more than once 🙂 It was great fun to amass a ton of various tracks and just let it flow, then discover where key progression gets me.

Can you feel the spring already?

Well, where I live I can’t yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, so I recorded this mix for the first day of spring. Enjoy over two hours of progressive vibes fading from deep house to uplifting trance.

Progressive Mix 2017-02-26

I got suprisingly nice feedback after my previous mix, so decided to do some more. Here’s quick progressive mix. I don’t have a time yet for 2-hour Moments of Peace podcast, so I recorded something shorter – but this time live. Enjoy.

Kamille Louis – Still Waiting Remix

Another month, another remix contest.

Just before the deadline I finished a remix of Still Waiting by Kamille Louis. Good thing it’s shared in public and you can actually vote for it. The competition is strong though, mostly thanks to significant rewards.

Now back to backyard: The original feels pretty uninspired. I guess the author had no idea what to do with, and neither had I – the genre was quite off :P. The basic idea was to use samples from remix pack as much as possible. I started down from cutting every sample out of it and procesing them until they ended up with something useful. The track is driven by polyrhythmic maracas (new technique to me) and basslines were resynthesized in Serum from original samples. The pads were also resynthesized with Harmor, though with poor results – mostly ending up with atonal textures. Second lead was chopped guitars playing MIDI extracted from generic drum loops – Ableton bread and butter.

Still, it eventually turned out to be pretty nice progressive house with a bunch of unusual sample FX. In fact it’s all about mixdown.

So it’s done. The next remix will be full-on trance at 140 BPM made from this. Should be quite straightforward.

Spring Mix 2016

A bit late this year, but still here. I’ve been doing spring mixes for 10 years now and can’t stop!

There’s actually a lot of different stuff going on in this set, from deep to prog house, followed by melodic nad uplifting trance. Also there’s one of my own tracks “Bliss” and it  fits so nicely 🙂 More details to follow.
