Long time no update.
But now I’m back with another double EP!
Double trance EP with different tunes that have one thing in common – unusual composition using exotic key changes.
Inverse Universe 2018 is actually a rework of my old tune from 2013, with little changes in composition but day and night difference in quality.
Dreams of Grandeur is an idea I’ve had stuck in my head for years… done completely different.
I also got quite positive opinions about this EP. Suprisingly more people appreciated the unusual key changes rather than didn’t like it. So there’s a room for experimentation in trance, too!
As usual, I’ll discuss every track from this EP in separate article. In the meantime, enjoy!
Okay, this is a rework of track that’s only few months old. The difference is not so apparent this time, but certainly it sounds better. Cleaner and smooth. Not much more to say here.
I also learned that good mix is not necessarily achieved by making everything loudest and clearly audible – even though it eventually gets there anyway. The good mix is when nothing sounds wrong and gives listener no “WTF” moments. Just as in professional productions you hear on the radio.
A bit late this year, but it’s here – as ever since 2006. Do the maths!
Okay, so last month I participated in Tranceformations 2018 DJ contest. Didn’t make it this time, wasn’t even among 5 finalists selected from as many as 150 entries. Anyway, check the mix on your own.
Since now extended versions of tracks are on Youtube, there’s a good point to discuss how “Starvation” was made.
I had a simple idea in mind – a straightforward trance tune with african theme. This involves, obvioulsy, polyrthytmic djembe drums, but also harmonies. Some grooves were played by hand using different instruments, such as Ableton stock rack and Big Bang Cinematic Percussion, other loops were found on the Internet. As to harmonies, I googled some “african music”, understood correctly or not, and tried various chord progressions until it worked.
I made a resolution that I will be more productive this year. It doesn’t mean I will work more though, rather that will waste less time on activities that are useless. In particular, listening to hundreds of tracks and not playing any of them in the end is a huge waste. So here I wrapped up my Pure Trance collection. Very satisfied with this mix:
