How to make acid basslines

In this video I demonstrate how to create an acid bassline with as many as 8 different synths:

This includes basic patch, full track mix tips as well as a variety of sound design variations for all subtractive synths that I own.

Yep, hard acid basslines are a commonplace in trance music and also a part of my signature sound. You can hear some in a number of releases like Valor, The Beauty of Darkness, Scythe and grab some freebies like recent 42, Jihad or Inhuman.

Hope you find this video helpful.

The Making of “Live While You Can”

From the very beginning, this track was meant to be simple. An uplifting cookie-cutter inspired by eurotrance from 2000s, especially my favourite duo Nu-NRG. I just wanted to go and try if I can create something “normal” without oversophisticated sound design and composition. After all, the majority of trance nowdays is a copy-paste of each other.

Enfortro – We Came To Conquer (Warmonger Remix)

It’s time for another freebie! Get ready for this warm uplifter.

The track was originally prepared for a contest somewhere in April. But it wasn’t that good. I got down to it again last weekend and found out it honestly sucked. But not all is lost!  I already figured out how to turn it into proper uplifter. What do you think?

Synths used were Vacuum Pro (first ride) for basses and phasy arp together with LuSH-101 for pads and final supersaw lead. In fact the most important thing in that project was D16’s Devastor 2, which is pretty much on every track and adds tons of warmth and agressiveness to this tune. I aimed at dirty, warm summer vibe and took inspiration from old Sean Tyas tracks in particular.

There are also polyrthytmic maracas rolling through entire length of track. I bet you didn’t notice, but they add some interest to the composition as they drive multiple envelope followers from Live M4L stock.

What really makes or break the tune are the reference tracks, though. This summer I did even more careful A/B comparison and particular started matching EQ, which turned out to make day and night difference. I believe this one is the very best and properly produced trancer I ever shared, so enjoy it!

In the meantime I finished more tracks and need to send them out to labels. In particular the ones that actually check the demos 😛 Life is hard.

Beekeeper’s Muse remix contest

I’m quite digging all the remix contests now, the tracks just come one after another. Here’s an attempt to remix a synthpop, with actual vocals – new thing to me. The original track is clearly amazing and I just wanted to make it similiar but even better, more EDM-friendly rather than pop. This prog-house turned out very satisfactory, just check it on your own. I believe this is an easy-listening tune also non-EDM heads can tolerate. Also, the track is light on compression so sounds more like a pop than hard-limited club tune. Enjoy!

Ups and downs

I didn’t post for last 2 months, but it was busy and productive time.

First of all, I won a remix contest of Ruska – Saimaa by Black Lemon Records (details on Soundcloud).

It was only 4th place, but enough to make it. Looks like my first and only release will be progressive house. Will make another post when I get more details on this one.

It was my 3rd track this year, but 20th till date. It takes good time to learn production, but finally I’m there.

Secondly, due to this achievement I gave a lecture on how the remix was made and got free LuSH-101 plugin from D16 Group as reward. This trance workhorse is worth another post. My performance was recorded and will be avaliable on video in some months (only in Polish).

Finally, I also took part in remix contest of Andy Groove – Impellent.

Unfortunatelly this time didn’t make it, which makes me sad. It’s a simple but huge uplifter, going to share it soon. I still believe it’s better than anything I made till date.

All in all, you can expect 3 more posts exploring both remixes and the synth in detail. Other than that, I have a bunch of real-life events to sort out for now, but once I’m back, the music will be coming quickly 🙂
